Our History

The New Cliffside Players was founded by Stacey Carr in 2008 and we haven’t looked back since!

There was an original ‘Cliffside Players’ that was running for some time prior to 2008, but unfortunately, the group closed several years prior. We have limited information about the original group, but have had a couple of members join our group since!

Stacey has always loved dance, acting, music and the theatre. She danced from a young age and grew up performing at a local dance school and alongside her sister in many talent shows and festivals. Stacey was part of the choir and drama groups throughout school, and trained and qualified as a dance teacher.

It wasn’t until a few years later, after the ballet shoes had been stored away, that she longed for the fun and excitement of big production performances. Her friend was part of another local amateur dramatic society and after watching several of their performances, decided she would set up her own group where she could take a more ‘behind the scenes’ approach.

In May 2008, in Navenby, she arranged for a meeting to discuss the practical logistics and possibilities of launching a new group with a view to produce their very first show that Christmas.

Wellingore Memorial Hall was chosen because of its ideal location, great community spirit, and its stage facilities.

Fortunately, people turned up and so it began!
